Claire Hebeisen

Violinist Claire Hebeisen is passionate about musical storytelling. She seeks to create an emotional experience and enable communication. She is committed to a variety of diverse musical performances including alternative repertoire, creative collaboration, and performing in non-traditional spaces. She is active in chamber music, solo performance, and community engagement in North America and Europe. 

Claire has performed numerous solo and chamber engagements around the U.S. These include a solo performance for the Gordon Trust Fund Concert Series at Temple Oheb Shalom, a performance of Bach’s Chaconne for the Bach Marathon Concert at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Baltimore, MD, and numerous solo engagements in Mora, MN. She has performed with her duo partner, Colin Crandal, in Maastricht, Netherlands and in Portland, OR for the Coulter Concert Series at St. John’s Episcopal Church. She has also performed chamber music in various festivals including Decoda Chamber Music Festival in New York, Domaine Forget in Quebec, Aigues-Vives on Musiques in France, and Eastern Music Festival in North Carolina and in Isafjordur, Iceland. 

Claire is a member of the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra and subs regularly with other orchestras in Maryland including the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra and Maryland Symphony Orchestra. She has also served as concertmaster for performances with the Maryland Choral Society and Georgetown Chorale. Claire held the position of Principal Second Violin in Peabody's Conductor Orchestra (2021-22), the paid lab orchestra coached by Marin Alsop. As a String Fellow at Eastern Music Festival (2022), Claire performed weekly orchestra concerts alongside faculty members in the Eastern Festival Orchestra.

Claire works to promote social justice, performing and organizing many concerts to benefit charities such as the Child Survival Project and a Place for You. She was a co-director of Peabody String Sinfonia, a student-run conductor-less chamber orchestra that performs in non-traditional venues including rehab centers, cancer treatment facilities, and homeless shelters (2019-2021.) Claire was also the Peabody Musician in Residence at Edenwald Senior Living Community. In exchange for free housing, she played three weekly concerts for the residents of the community. She is honored to have these opportunities to share stories through music.

Claire loves new music and was part of the contemporary music ensemble, Now Hear This (2018-22.) She often works closely with composers and has premiered several works including, “Picture Whimsies” by Bobby Ge, “Juniper” by Andrew Burke, and “Straight Up” by Tristan Latchford. As a member of the Hebeisen-Crandal duo, Claire has also premiered and recorded pieces written for the ensemble including “in these pockets of quiet” by Nathaniel Parks, and “Cypress” by Hon Ning Cheung. She feels that musical performance is a conversation between the composer, performer and audience, and that being able to work with a composer personally brings a revitalizing energy into performance.

Claire studied violin at Peabody Conservatory with Violaine Melancon and Judith Ingolfsson. She received a BM from Peabody in 2021 and a Master’s Degree in 2022. She earned a Graduate Diploma in Performance studying with Prof. Melancon at McGill University in 2023. She has also studied with Jonathan Carney, Holly Hamilton, and Jeff Howard. At Peabody, Claire’s string quartet and piano trio were coached by Seth Knopp, Maria Lambros, and Michael Kannen.
